Its true. I am returning to the corporate jungle. Freelance has beaten my soul to a pulp, and I just don''t want to do it anymore.
Saw what you want about corporate life, but I''m excited to go back. ', 'People complain about their jobs all the time, and I find that funny. When I tell people that I work from home, they invariably say "that must be great! Such freedom!"
Oh theres freedom all right. Freedom to play with the cats, play games, talk on the phone, go for walks, grocery shop....everything but work. Its so easy to get distracted, especially when things are slow. Then rent looms up, and all of a sudden you''re terrified of missing it. Then clients miss deadlines, real life interferes, and the whole thing just goes to hell. That is, of course, assuming you can find the clients in the first place. Thats always a fun challenge.
9-5 comes with a whole host of issues for sure (new people, new systems, workplace drama, etc) but its also got a ton of bonuses. Steady pay is obviously the big one. Man, I don''t even know how I am going to handle that part. Oh yeah, I''m going to love it.
But its more than just the paychecks. The idea of working with a team, various departments, and even the company as a whole is a huge plus. I also miss having a set schedule each day, set goals, and a known position. Perhaps that weird, but if you''ve ever freelanced then you know why this is so much different, and desirable.
Call it what you will. Being a cog in a machine. Selling out. Conformity at its worst. I don''t care. I miss it, and can''t wait to get back to it.
I guess this means I should iron my dress shirts...
